Stroke, High Blood Pressure & Heart Disease

High blood pressure puts you at risk for both heart disease and stroke. About 1 in 3 adults have high blood pressure which is 140/90 or higher. Also, approximately 1 in 3 adults have prehypertension. Hypertension is 120/80 – 139/89, which is not yet classified as high blood pressure but is not in the ideal range. This leaves only 1 in 3 adults with blood pressure readings in the normal or ideal range.

Heart disease is the number 1 killer of Americans, both men and women. Plus it accounts for 1 in every 4 deaths in this country. Stroke is the 5th leading cause of death in the United States. It kills 140,000 Americans each year or 1 in 20 deaths. Every year 795,000 people in the United States have a stroke. Not only does this cause death but also leads to disability, reducing mobility in half of stroke survivors 65 and older.

Blood pressure is influenced by many factors in the body, such as heart, kidney and liver disease, as well as hormones and neurological control. Though medications can be helpful, they sometimes do not work. Medication can cause adverse reactions and contribute to the worsening of kidney function.

With structure-function care, we try to get to the underlying cause of high blood pressure. Whether it is plaque in the artery walls, chronic kidney disease, or weakening of the heart. We then work to turn those conditions around with diet, exercise, supplementation, herbals and homeopathies to restore proper health and homeostasis to the body without drugs or surgery.
